Day 2: Phnom Penh City Tours (B/L/..)
After breakfast, we will drive about 15 kilometers to the Choeng Ek Killing Fields and then to the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum. Also known as S21, it was used by the Khmers Rouge when they came to power in 1975. The haunting pictures of the faces of the hundreds who were tortured there line the walls inside the old school. Most of the 17,000 people detained at Toul Sleng were eventually taken to the Killing Fields. We break for lunch and visit The Royal Palace complex, the Throne Hall or Vinichhay Temple, the Chan Chaya Pavillon (where traditional dances took place). The Silver Pagoda, which is an amazing place with the storey covered with 5000 silver plates, and housing the Preah Keo, or emerald Buddha, made of Baccarat crystal. The 90 kg golden Buddha studded with 9584 diamonds is located in front of. After that, we will visit the National Museum – a vast collection of Khmer art and sculptures. Overnight in Phnom Penh.
Day 3: Phnom Penh – Stung Treng Province (B/../..)
After breakfast, we journey to Stung Treng and take a boat ride to the Thala Bariwatt historical site. Please note that today is a fairly long drive. Stung Treng is located in Cambodia’s northern border with Laos and the point where the Mekong River enters Cambodia. Stung Treng was a part of Laos when the Khmer Empire was defeated, but reverted back to Cambodia during the French colonial period. Even today you can hear Lao spoken in the town. Overnight in Stung Treng.
Day 4: Stung Treng – Banlung (Ratanakiri Province) (B/../..)
In the morning, we drive to Banlung, the capital of Ratanakiri Province. We continue to Boeng Yeak Lom Lake, an inactive volcanic lake. This is a popular spot for swimming and picnicking, then we head for the Ka Chan Waterfall. As the day draws to a close, we will walk up Eisey Pak Ta Mak Hill to admire the beautiful red sunset. Overnight in Banlung.
Day 5: Banlung – Ven Sai District (B/../..)
Today we will drive out to Ven Sai Village to visit ethnic minority groups. We will take an hour boat trip up the Sen River to visit several ethnic groups, the first of which is the Kachon Hill Tribe. In this village, we can experience the daily life of people who live a life completely different than that in other parts of the world. Then we return to Banlung Town. Overnight in Banlung.
Day 6: Banlung – Stung Treng – Kratie & Kampong Cham (B/../..)
In this morning, we travel to Kratie via Stung Treng, and take a boat to observe the fresh water Dolphins in the Mekong River. Approximate 20km north of Kratie, at the village of Kampi, the swirling waters of the Mekong are considered to be the best place to see the critically endangered Mekong Irrawaddy Dolphin. As few as 80 dolphins remain in these waters, and while there are ongoing and comprehensive conservation projects underway, dolphin mortality still remains high.
En route to Kampong Cham, we will stop at a rubber plantation. The provincial capital, Kampong Cham, is on the west bank of the Mekong River and is important for transportation, trade and agriculture.Overnight in Kampong Cham.
Day 7: Kampong Cham – Kampong Thom – Siem Reap (B/../..)
On the way to Kampong Thom, we will stop at the historical hill temples of Phnom Srei (female hill) and Phnom Pros (male hill). Before arriving in Siem Reap, we will explore the Sambor Prei Kuk Temple Group. Sambor Prei Kuk was the capital of the Kingdom of Chenla during the reign of the early-7th century King Isanavarman, and is the site of a most impressive group of pre-Angkorian structures. There are more than 100 small temples, scattered through the forest. We continue our journey to Siem Reap. Overnight in Siem Reap.
Day 8: Siem Reap – Angkor Complex (B/../..)
After breakfast, we start our visit of Angkor with the Royal city of Angkor Thom. We begin at the South Gate, with its well-restored statues of asuras (demons) and gods lining the bridge, and finish at the quiet area of the Preah Pithu Temples. On our way, we will stop at the famous Bayon Temple, a pyramid temple decorated with approximate 200 gigantic carved heads. We will also visit the Royal Enclosure, the Elephant Terrace and the Terrace of the Leper King. We also visit Ta Prom Temple known as the Jungle temple. Next, we will explore Angkor Wat until sunset. This famous temple is believed to be the world’s largest religious monument, and is certainly one of the most spectacular. Overnight in Siem Reap.
Day 9: Siem Reap – Banteay Srey – Tonle Sap Lake (B/../D)
This day takes us 35km north of Siem Reap to the temple of Banteay Srei, which dates from 967. Banteay Srei is known for its outstanding pink sandstone carvings. We go on to the Landmine Museum and the Pre Rup Temples, and we will have lunch in a village nearby. In the afternoon, we go to Tonle Sap Lake, Asia’s largest lake. It boasts the biggest harvest of fresh water fish in the world, and swells to ten times its normal size during the wet season. We take a boat trip to observe how local people go about their daily lives. A visit to a fish farm, a floating school and a local market provides a rewarding experience for the day.Overnight in Siem Reap hotel
Day 10: Siem Reap Free day (B/../..)
Today is free for you to explore Siem Reap Town. You will want to see the Old Market area which was the French Quarter. This is a good place for shopping at the old market and for trying delicious Khmer cuisine. There are also night markets a short distance from downtown. Overnight in Siem Reap.
